The Beginning of the Ice Beauties

Texas Ice Beauties became official in February of 2019. The idea to create the group started with Stephanie and Kylie, two students at the University of Texas (at the time, a sophomore and freshman respectively), who have always been ice hockey fans. They met in the fall of 2018 at a recruiting event for a different social organization at the university, where the topic of ice hockey got brought up between the two of them. Stephanie had asked Kylie if she knew about the university's ice hockey team and she did not (as most people don't). After going to a game together soon after that, they spent the majority of the 2018-2019 school year attending games about every other week at Chaparral Ice, cheering on the UT Ice Hockey team.

One night at a game, they were talking during an intermission and discussing how there weren't usually many people in the stands at the game. The only game that really had a large amount of people was the UT vs. A&M game, but they wished there could be that kind of turnout at all of the games because it makes for an exciting environment and they were sure the players had more fun when there were more fans there. The idea then got suggested to start up an organization on campus that focused on getting the word out about the team and, in turn with that, getting more of a fan base at the games.

Being in Texas, ice hockey is not a very popular sport for most people. We believe that if more people knew about hockey and went to a game or two, they would love it as much as we do.

As the Texas Ice Beauties, one of our goals is to try and make sure that some or all of us attend the games so that there are always at least some fans there. In the future, we hope to grow our group and the awareness of the team in order to continue increase attendance at the games.
